Diagram of how Matric, FSc and entry test marks are weighted into a COMSATS University Islamabad aggregate

The COMSATS University Islamabad aggregate is not your FSc percentage. It is a weighted total built from three separate results — your Matric marks, your FSc marks and your entry test — and at COMSATS University Islamabad those three are weighted Matric / SSC marks 10%, FSc / HSSC marks 40%, NTS NAT-I 50%. That weighting decides more of your final position than most candidates realise: a few extra marks in a component worth half the total outweighs a whole grade in a component worth ten percent.

It is worth seeing the arithmetic plainly. If NTS NAT-I carries the largest share of the COMSATS University Islamabad total, then preparing for that test is the highest-value use of your time — and no amount of coursework can fully compensate for a weak score there. If the academic components dominate instead, the opposite is true, and the test only needs to be respectable.

    How to use the number

Enter the marks you actually obtained and the total marks for each component — not percentages. The difference matters: 800 out of 1100 is 72.7%, and entering "800" in a field that expects a percentage produces a number that looks plausible and is wrong by a mile.

Once you have your aggregate, the useful comparison is against the closing merit for the programme you want in the previous year — not against a friend's score and not against the highest aggregate in your class. Closing merit moves every year with the number of applicants, the number of seats and how the whole cohort performed, so treat a gap under about two percentage points as too close to call.

What an aggregate does not tell you

It does not tell you whether you will be admitted. Admission also depends on the programme you apply to, the seats available in that programme, how many candidates put it first on their list, and any quota that applies. Two candidates with identical aggregates can get different answers on the same day.

It also does not capture eligibility. Most programmes carry a minimum in the entry test or in the intermediate subjects you studied, and falling below that bar removes you from consideration regardless of your aggregate. Check the eligibility table in the current prospectus before you count on the number.

    Where this weighting comes from

The weights above are the ones the institution publishes for admission, not a figure copied from another calculator site.

Universities do change these formulas between cycles, and some programmes — medical, architecture, art and design — use a different weighting from the general one. If your programme is one of those, the general calculator will not match it.
